Unboxed – Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W1

The tech world, it seems, has secretly decided to make today ‘national 3D day’. First Sky announced its first 3D channel, then Fujifilm’s exciting new ‘Real 3D’ camera dropped onto our doormat.

It did so with a rather large thud – the Finepix Real 3D W1, to use its full name, is a beast of a compact camera, measuring 25.6mm thick and weighing about the same as the Olympus E-P1.

But all that weight is fully justified, given that its two lenses and two CCD sensors (both decent 1/2.3in jobs) allow it to take 3D snaps, and show them on its 2.8in lenticular screen. Macro shots are also possible, but require you to take two snaps in quick succession – keeping the shot in focus while doing this takes a little practice.
